Ooty is one of India's
most popular hill resorts, located at 2240
metres above sea level in the Niligiri
Hills of southern India.
Established as a `hill-station' during
the British rule, it retains much of its
quaint colonial charm, while offering panoramic
views, delightful nature walks, as well
as numerous modern attractions and facilities.
Ooty abounds with major tourist attractions:
rolling meadows; stone walled churches with stained
glass windows; acres and acres of tea plantations
and an artificial lake-all these a must on every
tourist's itinerary.
Ooty offers a breathtaking
view of the blue Niligiri hills, the botanical
gardens with large banyan trees and an incredible
variety of ornamental and exotic plants.
And, of course, the village of the Todas,
where one can strike a bargain to get chunky
silver jewellery. From Ooty, one can visit
Coonoor, or for those given to adventure, a visit
to the Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary will be recommended.
With its exotic scenery, deep ravines and enchanting
sunrises and sunsets, Ooty has become the first
choice for tourists, honeymooners as well as
a business conference venue
