Siliguri is situated
at the foothills of eastern Himalayas, landscaped
by the lush tea gardens of Dooars. The biggest
town in North Bengal, Siliguri is the gateway to
Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, Kalimpong, eastern
Nepal and Assam. Tourists also use Siliguri as
base to visit the Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary,
the rain forests of Dooars, Jaldapara and Gorumara
sanctuaries famous for its one-horned rhinoceros,
Buxa Tiger Reserve, Mirik hill resort and of course,
the tea plantations, world renowned for Darjeeling
Tea ('The Champagne of
the East').
Siliguri is 392 feet
above sea level and has summer temperature
of 32 degrees celsius. The junction is
good for visit round the year excepting
the monsoon, i.e., July and August. The
activity of highest relevance to be noticed
here is the tea trade and the auctions
